Privacy
The short version: no cookies, no accounts, no ads, and nothing that identifies you.
No cookies
The Homebrew Academy website and its programs do not use cookies.
Anonymous visit counts
We use GoatCounter to count how many people use the site and its programs. It records which page was opened, the site you came from, your general browser and device type, and your country. It does not use cookies, does not keep your IP address, and cannot follow you across days or other websites.
For the programs we also count a few simple events, such as a listening room being started, a player joining a table, or a PDF being downloaded. Room codes, player codes, names, characters and anything you type are never sent.
Your data stays in your browser
The Bard's Lectern and the Proving Grounds (Character Builder and Combat Resolver) save your settings, characters and sessions in your own browser's storage so they are there next time. That data stays on your device. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.
Services the site loads
Like most websites, some pages load parts from other services, which receive your IP address the way any website does when you load something from it:
- Google Fonts for the site's lettering.
- Firebase (Google) to sync the Combat Resolver between screens at your table.
- PeerJS to connect the DM and players in the Bard's Lectern's listening room.
- cdnjs, jsDelivr and unpkg for code libraries, such as the document reader.
